Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup red lentils masoor dal, rinsed
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 tomatoes chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 inch fresh ginger grated
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 –2 green chilies chopped (optional)
  • 1 tbsp oil or ghee
  • 2.5 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Instructions:
  • Heat oil in a pot and add cumin seeds. Let them sizzle for 30 seconds.
  • Add chopped onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until golden.
  • Add tomatoes and cook until soft. Stir in turmeric, coriander powder, and garam masala.
  • Add rinsed lentils, water, salt, and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 20–25 minutes or until the lentils are soft.
  • Adjust consistency with more water if needed. Garnish with cilantro and serve hot.
